Colour Studies Assignment & Visual Communication

Colour Studies & Visual Communication Assignment

For this assignment we were asked to capture a series of images based upon two criteria: colour swatch that we've been given and a series of key words  ( e.g. shape, form, texture, reflection, natural, urban etc.)

we had only one week for this assignment so I've not done any research or preparation before producing my outcome. Most of these images come from my well thought out, spontaneous ideas.

PHOTOGRAPHS BASED ON MY COLOUR SAMPLE

My guitar belt

The key word- texture ( I used side lighting to highlight the texture of this belt)

Liquid diffusion
The key word- movement ( here I wanted to show
a dynamic movement of paint drop dissolving in water ).

Crayons
The key word- Shapes

IMAGES RELATING TO MY CHOSEN WORDS:

Calmness
I took this photograph with my analogue 'PRAKTICA' camera on 35mm Kodak film (iso 200). I am quite satisfied with this image due it's plasticity and charm. I edited it a little bit in Photoshop. I warmed up an overall hue of this image, added quite strong vingette to make the model's face stand out and sharped it a little bit with highpass filter.

Reflection
The key word- Reflection ( I really liked this vivid sky light reflected by a car bonnet so I decided to take quite dynamic shoot of it with my wide angle lens. In terms of manipulation I've decided to crop this image to get rid of irrelevant context of an image and fully expose the idea of reflection. Beside this, I've applied a slight HDR (high dynamic range) effect onto this image and It gave quite impressive results ( vivid sky, shiny body car ).

Urban
Here I captured an image of an urban cityscape. I like this asymmetric shape of a building and construction of a bridge going across. However, this photograph would be much more descriptive if it contained some urban symbols such as: graphites.

Natural
Here I wanted to present a natural, calm photograph captured in ambient light conditions.

I produced this composition to show the 'incrustation'. I captured this photograph against a creamy canvas. I used one light source coming from right side and reflected it's light with gold reflector placed on the left side.
